"MAY THE SONS OF OUR SONS REMEMBER, DALMELLINGTON WITH PRIDE"

PHOTO

The photograph on the left is of the Dalmellington Ariel Link which ran for over 1 mile from Bogton Mine to Chalmerstonn Mine. It was used for transporting coal from Bogton and Chalmerston to the coal loading point a Minnivey. It was dismantled around 1955 and purchased by Butlin's Holiday Camp at Ayr where it was re-erected and used to transport visitors from the entrance of the Heads of Ayr site down to the holiday camp proper.

Dalmellington and the Doon Valley are very special to Donald L Reid who has now written five books based on the Valley of Doon, immortalised by Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns.
